Torgo!

Torgo!

Blake Talley and Ike Whitehead have played together for close to 7 years. After years of jams with many many local musicians in Amarillo (including Jeremy Jellison of Penny for Lame, Michael Rowley of The Cheribum Seat, Michael Walker, Jacob Combs and Sean the Drummer of The Photoelectric Effect, the infamous Matt Stickley, and many many more ridiculous people), Ike and Blake decided to invite local Barbarian and music extraordinaire Matt Horsley over for night after night of music playing and goofing off. Soon after, Ike's brother Andy Whitehead seemed a perfect fit, as he was getting quite good at guitar. One night, The Limited Dance was first performed at Ike's garage with Blake on drums and vocals, and Ike and Andy on guitar. Soon after this, Andy's school friend Kody Miller was taught the part for The Limited Dance and became the official drummer. He is a badass.
Not long after this, the ever-beautiful Grand McDivitt joined to share the role of bassist with Horsley, who also played keys and was a key-player in the song-writing process. Once the whole band was together, 'hit single' Perfect Scene came together in the Hobo-Abode, or the 2-story mall playhouse in Blake's backyard, which served as the jam room for almost 4 years. Under the name of iYeti, the 6 dorky musicians played a show at the North Branch Library called 'Library Fest '06', performing the songs Perfect Scene, S.L.G.C., The Limited Dance, Cyborg, and others.
One night while watching Mystery Sciene Theatre 3000, Grant and Blake decided to change the name to Torgo!, in honour of the most ridiculous character in the most ridiculous film ever made. The rest is history. After performing various times at different venues in Amarillo, Torgo!'s first era was a unique and fun experience, bringing audience members of all shapes and colors. Performing in places like WT's Box for the John Lennon Battle of the Bands, The Pod, The Pigeon Hole, and various houses and backyards, Torgo! began to grow as a young band, and people liked how different they were than anything else around. AFter recording a 10-track live CD with Richard Denny in about 3 days, the band played it's final show at Grant's house, tore apart and shredded an Economics book (property of Mr. Robertson, the man holding the globe on the Economics album cover) and frightened everyone at the show with their ridiculous antics. What a way to go out. The next day, Ike, Blake, and Horsley left for North Texas.

Torgo! was silent for a long, sad year.

But when things didn't work out for Ike and Blake in Denton, they boomeranged back into Amarillo with a bang and Torgo! reformed! Blake came back with new songs in his head after a heartbreak or two in Denton, and Abandonware and Ghost Glasses were soon formed. Torgo! is now recording a killer industry-standard album with Bill Ockander and will be selling it everywhere sometime this year. It is a concept album about the nostalgia of old computer games, video games, and the like entitled 'Choose Your Own Adventure' that will come out with a feature film the length of the album, which will be played behind them at live shows soon. You can catch Torgo! usually at the 806, the Nat, or other local venues alongside brother band dance project Scamtron, and friends Underwater Firefighters.

Can't wait to see you at our shows, and look for our new album soon!
In the meantime, check out our myspace and call Blake if you want to be a part of the films.
