I see a lot of people adding comments here about how the rock music scene sucks. They bitch and moan about it, but no one is taking the lead and making it happen. If nobody is going to support all these rock concerts, then the badass rock bands are not going to come to Amarillo. When one band goes on tour with another band or bands and they say that they had a low turn out for this show, then the other bands will not book anything here and they pass that info along to even more bands. If you are not going to go see these bands in concert, then don't be bitching when they don't come back and all you get is Cinderella and Warrant. These are old school, big hair bands that can still put on some of the best rock shows around. It really ticks me off when someone bitches about a concert like this and then bitches because we are not getting those $200 ticket concerts here. Do you really think Amarillo will pay $200 or even $100 for a concert ticket? Really, do you?
Everyone in Amarillo throws a fit when they have to pay $35 to see Disturbed. I know so many that said they will not pay that much for a concert. That is why you get stuck with Cinderella. I love these older rock bands and would want to see them come here more often. You should really consider youselves lucky that they will even play here. They still sell out in bigger cities.
I was also very upset when Avenue X locked it's doors because nobody would come out to the concerts and support the rock music scene. That place had the best potential of making it happen for Amarillo again. I remember when Bangers would book some badass bands and the bar was always packed to the rafters. But even they couldn't survive.
I guess what I'm saying is, you better take what you can get and like it. If you don't want to support the meager amount of rock concerts coming to Amarillo, then don't expect it to get any better. I'm about to graduate from WT. Don't expect me to look for a career in this area. I'm a die hard rock fan an would prefer to go somewhere that appreciates the rock bands better. And why are so many out to trash Rock108 over this too. If I was the person in charge of bookng these bands and I heard everyone bitching about it, I would probably tell you to go to hell and stop doing it. They are a radio station, not a record label. You should appreciate what they are doing for the rock music scene in Amarillo. If people completely quit going to the concerts they brought here, then they would stop doing it. Remember they are a corporate station. The boss guys live halfway accross the country. If the market isn't demanding rock, then they would turn 107.9 into another country station or whatever the market demands.
So don't knock it people. Take what you can get and run with it. Go out and show a little support for the rock music scene and make those badass bands notice us. If you show that you will support them, they will come here and rock your ass off!
