Avenue X is gone.
I know someone that works at Avenue X and she said they closed it down because they couldn't afford to keep it open. I find it sad that Amarilloans wouldn't support such a great place. I stopped by at least once a week or more. But there were only a few people people ever there, unless a big act was there and even then they didn't sell out the shows very often. I guess everyone in Amarillo is content with just having Grahams and the Midnight Rodeo. I don't hang out in either of them and with the exception of the Golden Light and a couple of others, there really isn't a bar that I will frequent anymore. Oh well, I guess that's the way it is in Amarillo. We want to act like we are in the mainstream, when we can't even keep a simple rock club going. Grahams and the Rope-a-ho killed the bar scene in Amarillo, and it makes me sad. I'm not into the Walmart mentality of everything that seems to be going on. Open up a big place that has a little of each thing, and each of those little bits suck, but we like it that way cause we can have it all in one place. I hope that Grahams closes and goes away in February when their lease is up. I wouldn't upset me. Maybe then a few smaller places could get a foothold and give Amarillo a decent music scene again. Postman, you rock dude. Thank you for the time you had Avenue X.
